Netball is a fast-paced, strategic team sport played between two teams of seven players. Similar to basketball but with unique rules, netball emphasizes teamwork, precision passing, and tactical positioning. The objective is to score goals by shooting the ball through a hoop mounted on a 10-foot-high post.
No Running: Players cannot run with the ball; they must pass within 3 seconds of catching it.
Footwork: Players must keep one foot grounded when holding the ball (landing foot).
No Contact: Players cannot make contact with opponents or obstruct within 3 feet (0.9m).
Position Restrictions: Each position can only play in specific zones of the court.
Shooting: Only Goal Shooter (GS) and Goal Attack (GA) can score goals.
Game Duration: Four 15-minute quarters with breaks between each quarter.
A netball court measures 100 feet (30.5m) long and 50 feet (15.25m) wide, divided into three equal thirds:
Attacking third with goal circle (16-foot radius) where shooters score
Center third where play restarts and most players can move
Defending third with goal circle where defenders protect
Netball is all about teamwork and strategy. The ball moves down the court through quick, accurate passing. Each position has specific roles and court areas they can occupy. Teams work together to create scoring opportunities while defending their goal.
